SPM Instrument UK holds Maintenance Management Conference at the Theatre of Dreams

SPM Instrument UK has held its premier maintenance management conference at the Old Trafford arena in Manchester, England. The conference was held in cooperation with SPM Instrument Sweden and Swedish maintenance consultants Idhammar AB. Customers attending the event represented the cement, chemical, quarrying, mining and paper industries as well as Heathrow Airport.

The purpose of the conference, held in the Manchester United Directors Suite, was to show how to develop a successful World Class Maintenance strategy for any operation, and how SPM can contribute in this work. The concept of World Class Maintenance is a growing trend in many industries.

World Class Maintenance is maintenance without waste. It is about using knowledge-based management systems to move from reactive to proactive maintenance strategies, resulting in significant contribution to the overall effectiveness of the organisation.

The focus of the conference was to show the economical impact of maintenance on the bottom line, demonstrating how maintenance can be turned from a cost center into a profit generator. Tools like Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and how to calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) were covered, as well as the importance of full management support and structured change management to successful World Class Maintenance work.

SPM and Idhammar cooperate on the British market to transfer knowledge on asset management issues and condition based maintenance to plant and maintenance managers. SPM has global representation and Idhammar has extensive experience with international assignments. Next, this joint project will host a three-day training course for maintenance and production managers at the start of October 2007, centrally located in the English Midlands.

Old Trafford, also nicknamed The Theatre of Dreams, is home to Manchester United, the English Premier League Champions for 2006/2007.

”The conference was a very successful event and went a long way in demonstrating that SPM is a complete solutions provider, offering first class hardware and software systems as well as services. Rounding the meeting off by an up close and personal inspection of the Premier League Trophy of course was icing on the cake”, says Stan Jackson, Managing Director of SPM UK.
