Sustainability

At SPM Instrument, sustainability is an integral part of how we operate and develop our business. Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) work supports responsible operations, strengthens our communities, and creates long-term value for customers and partners. We are proud participants in the UN Global Compact, and our sustainability performance is evaluated through ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and EcoVadis, where we currently hold a Bronze Medal.

Our technologies contribute to more efficient and sustainable industrial operations by helping customers reduce waste, energy consumption, and unplanned downtime.

EcoVadis assessment

To measure and improve our performance, SPM Instrument Group is assessed by EcoVadis, a trusted global provider of sustainability ratings.

What EcoVadis evaluates
EcoVadis assesses companies across four areas:

  • Environment, including climate impact, energy use, waste management, and product lifecycle

  • Labor and human rights, including employee well-being, diversity, health and safety, and human rights standards

  • Ethics, including anti-corruption, fair business practices, and responsible governance

  • Sustainable procurement, including supply chain transparency and responsible sourcing

More than 100,000 companies use EcoVadis ratings to benchmark sustainability work.

Why it matters
For SPM, the EcoVadis rating provides independent transparency, identifies areas for improvement, and supports alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9, SDG 12, and SDG 13.

Our progress
We are proud to hold a Bronze rating. This reflects the work completed so far and sets a clear foundation for continued improvement. Sustainability is a long-term commitment, and we are working toward higher performance in the years ahead.

Environmental responsibility

Environmental sustainability is both a responsibility and an opportunity for positive impact. With research, development, and production under our direct control, we can integrate sustainability principles into every stage of our operations.

We take active steps to reduce our footprint and support circular practices:

  • Carbon footprint verified by ClimatePartner (GHG Protocol)

  • Focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy

  • ISO 14001 certified environmental management

  • Durable and repairable product design

  • Recyclable and low-impact packaging

Our commitments

  • ISO 14001 management with continuous improvement

  • Climate action aligned with Scopes 1, 2, and 3

  • Resource efficiency and circularity in product design

  • Pollution prevention through responsible materials handling

  • Supplier engagement based on environmental criteria

  • GRI-aligned sustainability reporting starting in 2026

Our objectives

  • Reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent by 2026

  • Complete full Scope 3 emissions mapping by 2027

  • Reduce business travel emissions by 20 percent by 2027

  • Transition to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030

  • Reduce carbon intensity relative to revenue by 10 percent by 2027

  • Apply circular economy principles to 50 percent of product lines by 2030

  • Ensure all product packaging is recyclable or compostable by 2027

Progress is monitored quarterly and reported annually to the Board of Directors. All targets are reviewed at least every three years to ensure alignment with legislation, scientific guidance, and stakeholder expectations.

Social impact

We prioritize people, safety, and community engagement across all operations. Our work supports a safe, inclusive, and compliant workplace for all employees, subsidiaries, and partners.

Key focus areas include:

  • Safe work environments supported by ISO 45001

  • Employee training and development initiatives

  • Health, safety, and well-being programs

  • Clear standards on labor rights and modern slavery prevention

  • Supplier expectations defined in our Supplier Code of Conduct

  • Support for youth sports and local community development

Social responsibility also includes protecting human rights across our global value chain. Assessments such as CMRT and EMRT form part of our supplier due diligence.

Governance

Strong governance ensures that sustainability is integrated into our business. The Board of Directors provides oversight, Executive Management is accountable for implementation, and the Sustainability Manager coordinates reporting and training. Department Heads integrate sustainability into daily operations.

Our work is guided by internationally recognised frameworks, including the UN Global Compact, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

We track key indicators and continuously improve performance. Recent results include:

  • A 14 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions since 2023

  • Seventy-five percent of key suppliers assessed for ESG risks
