Process optimization and condition-based maintenance maximize productivity at Rana Gruber

Rana Gruber uses toe position monitoring and condition monitoring systems to support process optimization in its tumbling mills, which helps improve productivity while supporting condition-based maintenance.

Application and monitoring setup

SPM’s toe position monitoring solution supports process optimization by running the tumbling mills at optimal throughput, helping to avoid mill overload. The solution also supports optimization by identifying the “sweet spot” where throughput is balanced with energy consumption, and by correlating particle size with toe position to ensure final product quality. Condition monitoring systems are used to replace parts only when needed, supported by HD Technologies and Factory Acceptance Testing of new and repaired machinery.

Results and benefits

Toe position optimization is a significant contributor to the mill’s approximately 10% production increase in recent years, and mill overload is now extremely unusual. HD Technologies offers long pre-warning times, supporting the planning of corrective maintenance, avoiding breakdowns and secondary damage, and reducing tied-up capital through improved spare part management.
