Condition monitoring improves availability at Norra Timber

Norra Timber utilizes condition-based maintenance and condition monitoring to ensure high availability in wood processing, where most production runs continuously 24/7. By detecting emerging component problems early, the company can plan maintenance and reduce the risk of disruptions.

Application and monitoring setup

Norra Timber selected a condition monitoring solution that provides a planning horizon, allowing maintenance efforts to be scheduled in conjunction with predetermined stop times. The Intellinova Parallel EN online system, equipped with DuoTech accelerometers, monitors electrical motors and bearings in chipper units, band saws, and edgers, and supports Factory Acceptance Tests on both new and repaired machinery.

Results and benefits

From commissioning at the end of 2020 through the summer of 2025, the system enabled Norra Timber to avoid 240 hours of unplanned downtime. Avoiding breakdowns supports refurbishment to factory specification, reduces cost and time, and helps personnel focus on regular work with continuous improvements.
