Kanthal secures production with advanced online system from SPM

Kanthal, a Swedish manufacturer and developer of oven products, heating systems, and resistance materials for industrial applications, has recently invested in advanced measuring equipment from SPM Instrument. By implementing the Intellinova Parallel EN online system, Kanthal can now effectively monitor its production equipment with patented HD Technologies for condition monitoring.

SPM Instrument has received an order from Kanthal for the high-performance Intellinova Parallel EN online system, designed for condition monitoring of rotating equipment in demanding industrial environments. Using groundbreaking measuring techniques such as SPM HD and HD ENV, leveraging patented HD Technologies, the system offers exceptionally long prewarning times for deteriorating mechanical condition.

For data collection from three intermediate mills in the hot-rolling process, 64 DuoTech accelerometers will be connected to the measuring systems. Measurement data is stored locally in Kanthal's network via Condmaster Ruby, a versatile software for analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshooting that communicates with SPM's measuring equipment. Integration of measurement data into the plant's superior systems is also facilitated through Rest API and OPC UA.

The online system complements the portable instrument Leonova Diamond that Kanthal already uses, highlighting Kanthal's dedication to ensuring high quality and reliability in its production. Through this comprehensive condition monitoring solution, Kanthal can secure its production process and minimize the risk of unplanned downtime.

Alexander Linerstad, Mechanical Technical Manager at Kanthal, comments on the investment: "The investment in SPM's online system is a significant step forward in developing our stability and digitalization in our production. This system helps us collect a large amount of measurement data that helps us plan for potential repairs well in advance, which otherwise would have been very costly. This strengthens our competitiveness. This system also contributes to a safer working environment, as we do not need to be near rotating equipment to the same extent as before."
